EDITORIAL METHODOLOGY

Every research lead should return to the record.

Liberty Precedent is designed as an independent Oklahoma research starting point. This page explains what is checked, what is summarized, and what researchers must still verify.

Selection and authentication

Cases are selected for their relevance to Oklahoma civil practice, legal education, or recurring research questions. Before a record is published, its caption, court, decision date, Oklahoma citation, docket number, disposition, and opinion link are matched to the underlying appellate opinion. County information appears only when the opinion or official case record establishes it.

Source hierarchy

Official Oklahoma State Courts Network opinions are preferred. When another public full-text source is used, the identifying information is checked against the opinion record and the source is named on the case page. Every case page links readers to the source used for authentication.

Source credit

When used, OSCN and the Oklahoma courts are credited as the sources of linked official opinions and records; Liberty Precedent does not claim authorship or ownership of court opinions, and its summaries and research organization are independently created.

Original summaries and labels

Holding and issue summaries are written for Liberty Precedent and are not court quotations, editorial headnotes, legal advice, or substitutes for reading the opinion. Practice-area labels, comparison types, doctrine paths, and geographic coding are research organization created for this project.

Authority boundaries

Authentication confirms that an opinion exists and that its identifying record has been checked. It does not establish current validity, positive treatment, publication status, or complete subsequent history. Unless separately confirmed, cases are labeled Not citator-checked. Researchers should use a current citator and confirm Oklahoma Supreme Court Rule 1.200 before relying on an opinion.

Corrections and transparency

Each record carries a source and verification date. Corrections are welcomed and are reviewed against the underlying opinion before publication. Questions about a record may be sent to libertydolberry@outlook.com.

Independent project

Liberty Precedent is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by OSCN, the Oklahoma Supreme Court, or any Oklahoma court. It does not provide legal advice.
